The
Association of Part-Time Tutors
(A
P T
T)
The
Association of Part-Time Tutors was formed on Tyneside in 1995 by Bob Groves
and Lesley Booth, two Part-Time teachers in the post-compulsory sector. They
were intent on founding an organisation that would give Part-Time educational
workers a support group of their own; an Association that would be
a forum for expression of their very specific working needs. The APTT has
since grown steadily, mainly by word-of-mouth, to become a force of influence
for the improvement of Part-Time conditions,
training... and the support
of high quality teaching for the benefit of tutors, students and providers
alike! It is the only independent and voluntary professional
body of its type on
Tyneside.
Who
is the APTT
for?
All
part-timers, whether in adult, community, further or higher education and
those others who strongly support our ethos and
objectives.
What
are the APTT's objectives?
--
To
combat feelings of isolation at
work
To
work toward better training for Part-Time teachers, and where possible to
materially support training programs around Part-Time teaching
needs.
To
share information on developments related to Part-Time
teaching
To
share personal skills for mutual
benefit
To
be a forum and collective voice for Part-Time
teachers
So
the APTT is a
union?
No.
The APTT is not a union. We do not negotiate over terms or pay, though
we do monitor pay rates, and have close fraternal relations with the appropriate
teaching
unions.
So
why should I
join?
To
have a voice!
But
you also can materially benefit from the APTT. Members
gain:
An
optional free entry in the APTT's
public Tutor Database on the Internet, and/or Web
CV.
Free
tutor training
courses
and days organised around subjects chosen by the
members.
The
chance to hear regular guest
speakers at APTT local
meetings
Impartial
support for the
accreditation of newly developed
courses via the Open College
Network
Access
to Voluntary Organisation Development
Agency specialist training
events
The
opportunity to keep up-to-date with
issues that concern you and your
work.
But
I don't live on
Tyneside!
You
can still be a member, and perhaps work toward forming your own local APTT
branch?
Membership
costs (at time of writing) only £3.00 per year.
